Best Prop Firm for Experienced & Full-Time Traders

Already profitable? How experienced traders should choose a prop firm — max funding caps, high splits, reliability, and multi-account scaling.

Once you’re consistently profitable, the question stops being “which firm is easiest to pass” and becomes “which firm can I actually build a business on.” Those are almost opposite criteria, and most best-of lists answer the first one.

What changes when you’re already consistently profitable

A beginner shops for a cheap challenge and a forgiving drawdown. An experienced trader with a proven edge is buying allocation and reliability — the ability to put real size behind a system that already works, and to get paid without friction.

That flips your priorities. Challenge difficulty barely matters when your edge clears the target comfortably; you’ll pass regardless. What matters is what happens after funding: how much capital you can eventually control, how fast payouts clear, whether the firm will still exist in a year, and whether the rules let you trade the way that made you profitable in the first place. A tight per-day loss limit or a restrictive news-trading rule can neutralise a good system no matter how large the account.

The mindset shift: you’re no longer trying to win a game. You’re choosing a counterparty for a long-term revenue relationship.

Prioritise max funding caps, high splits, and reliability

Three levers move your actual income once you can pass at will:

  • Maximum funding cap. The scaling ceiling — how large a single account, or your combined allocation, can grow. This is the difference between a side income and a full-time one. Confirm the top of the scaling plan, not just the starting balance.
  • Profit split. At scale, a few points of split is real money. High splits, and how quickly you reach the top tier, matter far more than a discounted entry fee.
  • Reliability. The unglamorous one that decides everything. Payout consistency, platform uptime during volatile sessions, and rule stability. A firm that changes its terms or slow-walks withdrawals is a business risk, not a partner.

Weight these in that order and most of the market falls away quickly. The prop firm payout calculator is useful here — model the same monthly return across firms with different splits and caps to see the real income spread, which is often wider than the headline numbers suggest.

Firms built for pros: FTMO, Topstep, The5ers

A few firms have a long-enough track record and a high-enough ceiling to be defensible choices for a full-time trader. Verify current terms yourself, but as reference points:

  • FTMO is the reference for CFD/forex traders who want a high split, a large scaling ceiling, and a payout history spanning years. Its longevity is itself a feature — it has paid through multiple market regimes.
  • Topstep is the established name for futures traders, with a mature rule set and a reputation for paying.
  • The5ers targets traders who want a lower-pressure funded phase and a long scaling runway rather than a fast sprint to a target.

The point isn’t that these three are objectively best — it’s that a pro should bias toward firms with a demonstrated multi-year history of paying, because your income now depends on that continuing.

Multiple accounts and total allocation limits

Serious size usually means multiple accounts, either within one firm or spread across several. Two constraints to map before you scale:

  • Per-firm total allocation caps. Most firms limit the combined capital any single trader can hold. Splitting across firms is how pros get past a single firm’s ceiling — but it multiplies the operational load.
  • Correlation and rule exposure. Running the same strategy across many accounts means one bad session can breach the daily loss rule everywhere at once. Diversifying firms doesn’t diversify your risk if every account trades the same signal.

Sizing consistently across a book of accounts with different balances is where manual trading breaks down. The position size calculator keeps per-trade risk constant across accounts of different sizes, so one signal translates into the correct lot on each. This is exactly the problem Shibiki’s copying is built for: place a trade once and it replicates across every connected prop account with risk scaled to each account’s balance, while the hard broker-side limits stop a single account from breaching its daily loss rule and dragging the others down with it.

Payout track record over marketing hype

The single most reliable signal for an experienced trader is boring: does the firm pay, on time, at scale, consistently. Everything else is downstream of that.

Marketing rewards new firms with aggressive promos and huge advertised caps. Those firms have no payout history to speak of. For a beginner testing a $50 challenge, that risk is acceptable. For a full-time trader routing meaningful income through an account, an unproven firm is a counterparty you can’t price. Favour the boring firm that has quietly paid for years over the loud one with a bigger banner. Read independent payout-proof threads, not the firm’s own testimonials.

Manage a large book from one live edge dashboard

The real challenge of trading full-time across several funded accounts isn’t the trading — it’s knowing whether your edge is still working across a dozen accounts and thousands of trades. That’s where a live view earns its keep.

Shibiki auto-journals every trade across all your connected accounts and computes a live edge health per strategy with a Wilson confidence interval — so you see not just your win rate, but how confident you can be in it given your sample size. When a strategy’s real expectancy starts drifting from the baseline you built the account on, you find out from the data instead of from a drawdown. For a full-time trader, catching decay early is the difference between a soft month and a blown account.

Confirm every firm’s current caps, splits, and payout terms directly before committing — the numbers change, and at your size the details decide your income.
